Address Space

IPv6 addresses are comprised of 8 lots of 16 bit HEX values. There are a total of 128 bits in an address.

eg:

2002:72D3:0000:0000:0000:004D:EA83:0001

These addresses can also be shorthanded by removing leading zero’s from an octet

eg:

2002:72D3:0000:0000:0000:4D:EA83:1

We can further shorthand by using 2 colons “::” in place of consecutive lots of zero’s

eg

2002:72D3::4D:EA83:1
